CHAPTER 17

EVEN MORE OBJECT LESSONS

Light of the World

Another day the Holy Spirit took me to a pedestal that had an object on it about the size of a small bead. I gingerly picked it up between my thumb and forefinger and asked Him what it was. Before the Holy Spirit could answer me, a great light burst forth from the bead. It was so bright that I could not see. I covered it quickly with my other hand to protect my eyes and again asked Holy Spirit what it was. He told me it represented the Light of the World—Jesus. I was told to put it in my eye.

When I did so, I immediately found myself standing on the shore of a harbor. I was a lighthouse. Out of my eye shined the Light of the World. Ships were coming into this safe harbor, but there were many obstructions in the way: barrier reefs, rocks, sand bars, flotsam, and every sort of danger that could cause harm or destruction. I knew my job was to watch the ships as they came into the harbor, lighting up the obstructions, helping them to find safe passage. The ships were coming into this safe harbor at different speeds.

I knew the lesson almost instantly. We believers are the lighthouses—we have the light. It is important that we show people the way and warn them of the impediments and obstructions that can sink them before reaching safety. We aren’t foghorns blowing that dreadful sound; we are lighthouses lighting the way, exposing the snares, and allowing people to see the way. We must not allow our light to dim and we must always have enough fuel on hand to keep the light burning brightly. We must never allow ourselves to think that we have plenty of fuel and need no more, or that we can wait to get more fuel after a particular storm has passed. We cannot allow ourselves ever to burn out!
